lyrics
well i went downtown to apply for a job
at the local herald
i thought it'd be nice getting paid
doing something that i cared for
they asked about my education
and my experience
i said ain't got no accredidation
but i got some common sense
no i didn't go to college
i ain't got me no degree
i learned everything i know
at the penitentiary
i ain't got no portfolio
i've never been a journalist
but i can write bout anything
and when i piss i never miss
don't you know, i'm a poet?
but nobody seems to know it
why should it be up to me to show it?
i just hope
i'll be famous when i die
oh no
cause i don't really feel like trying
while i'm alive
they took me on as a freelance writer
twenty dollars for a story
so i went back home
and i typed one up in a hurry
i wrote about coruption
within the local cops
that they were padding their pockets
with unsanctioned traffic stops
they didn't publish my story
they said i didn't have any proof
but why must i give evidence
when i'm speaking the truth?
i bet the editors a lesbian
she didn't seem to like me
maybe she's in bed at night
with the chief of the police
don't you know, i'm a poet?
but nobody seems to know it
why should it be up to me to show it?
i just hope
i'll be famous when i die....
oh no....
cause i don't really feel like trying
while i'm alive
