-story time-
it's payday
the human animal's going back to work
time passes slowly minute to minute and hour to hour
but the weeks, months, and years fly by
still little has changed.
sometimes he goes through brief periods of soberiety in which he starts to regain a hold on life, but then some unexpected tragedy occurs: his truck breaks down, he loses his job, someone picks a fight, he gets an unexpected bill in the mail... then he goes back to his old habit...
he always holds out hope though.
some days he picks up his old guitar, but his fingers don't move the way the used to, so he puts it back in it's case and thinks to himself, "not now; maybe later..."
lyrics
it's a brand new day
but it's safe to say
that things won't change
i'm going back to my old ways
i had a running start
but i won't go too far
cause if you try too hard
you might get a broken heart
i've been waiting so patiently
for nothing to come
setting fire to all around me
so i won't have no where to run
i had a lucky streak
got me on my feet
but the peace won't keep
all the wolves are just asleep
some say i'm cursed
with a mighty thirst
but it heals the hurts
from the shackles of the earth
i've been looking for a second chance
to help me clear my name
but i keep giving in to circumstances
i can't seem to change
i put the bottle down
i found an old stray hound
he lets me hang around
and we ain't ever going back to the pound
no we ain't ever going back to the pound
we ain't ever going back to the pound
